In a distressing incident, many worshippers were abducted from a mosque in Tsafe town, the headquarters of Tsafe Local Government Area in Zamfara State.
The abduction occurred around 5 a.m. on Thursday as worshippers were preparing for the morning prayer. According to a local resident, the bandits entered the mosque and instructed everyone to leave and follow them. They threatened to harm anyone attempting to escape.
Fortunately, some managed to flee. The bandits had strategically parked their motorcycles away from the mosque to avoid detection and approached the mosque on foot.
It is estimated that more than 30 worshippers were taken, as the mosque was at full capacity when the incident took place. Community Protection Guards are currently pursuing the bandits in an attempt to rescue the kidnapped individuals.
Tsafe Local Government has been severely affected by banditry, with the Tsafe-Gusau Road being particularly dangerous, witnessing daily kidnappings. Recently, a clash between two rival bandit groups resulted in casualties within the local government.
