Suspected hoodlums have caused chaos in Jaen Makera’s quarters in Kano metropolis, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to two policemen.
Outgoing Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, disclosed this during a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Kano. He confirmed that the suspects killed Muktar Garba, also known as Babalia, who later died while receiving treatment at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital. Garba’s body has been released to his relatives for burial.
Gumel reported that the hoodlums, armed with dangerous weapons, defied police presence and attacked innocent people. Police reinforcements from the tactical team and nearby divisions were deployed to the area, restoring peace as the hoodlums fled. Efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
Additionally, other groups of hoodlums engaged in street fighting on Wednesday at Yan Dillalai and Jaen Makera but were dispersed by the police. During the incidents, two policemen, SC Wasilu Umar and PC Abdulmalik Yusif, were injured, treated, and discharged from the hospital.
A suspect, Umar Shuaibu, was arrested for attacking Yusif, and a vehicle attached to Filin Hockey was destroyed.
Commissioner Gumel emphasized that the command is working to address the underlying causes of violence and promote lasting peace and well-being for all affected individuals. Police personnel are monitoring the situation, and normalcy has returned to the area.
