BREAKING: NYSC Hostel Collapses on Corps Members in Ekiti

Several corps members deployed to Ekiti State narrowly escaped death on Friday when the wall of the female hostel at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp collapsed on them.

The corps members, who were recuperating in the camp’s clinic, were rescued by their male counterparts who pulled them from the rubble.

One source stated, “Yes, the wall of one of the female hostels collapsed this morning (Friday). It was the bathroom wall, which caved in as they were preparing to bathe. Thankfully, people rushed down to retrieve them from the rubble. They have been stabilized at the clinic and will receive further medical treatment.”

An NYSC official, speaking anonymously, confirmed the incident, stating that only two corps members were affected and are currently recuperating in the camp’s clinic. The official noted that there have been persistent calls by the NYSC leadership in Ekiti State for the renovation of the dilapidated hostels, but these calls have not been heeded.

He urged parents and guardians not to panic, assuring them that the incident had no serious negative impact on the corps members.

The corps members are currently in the camp for the three-week compulsory orientation program for those posted to the state.
