Governors from the 36 states of the federation are currently convening in Abuja, the nation’s capital. Under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), they are meeting at the NGF secretariat in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Some of the governors have already started to arrive at the meeting venue. Among those present are Governors Lawal Dauda (Zamfara), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), and Alex Otti (Abia). Meanwhile, the governors of Enugu, Peter Mbah, and Borno States, Babagana Zulum, have sent their deputies to represent them.
The agenda of the meeting is currently not made public. However, during their last meeting, the governors pledged to ensure a fair minimum wage for Nigerian workers. This commitment comes in the wake of President Bola Tinubu’s recent approval of a N70,000 minimum wage.
Additionally, the governors are expected to address the ongoing debate surrounding the planned nationwide protest against bad governance and the recent Supreme Court judgment on local government autonomy. As key political figures, their stance on these issues will be closely watched.
