In a decisive move to combat terrorism, the Katsina State Government has initiated a 30-day intensive joint security operation across 19 frontline local government areas (LGAs). The operation aims to curb the recent surge in bandit attacks, which have intensified under the cover of the rainy season and dense crop growth.
Nasir Muazu, the Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, made the announcement on Tuesday night following an expanded State Security Council meeting at the Government House in Katsina. The meeting, convened by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, brought together key stakeholders, including State Security Council members, Local Government Chairmen, District Heads, Divisional Police Officers, representatives from the Department of State Services, Vigilante Group leaders, Katsina Community Watch Corps Commanders, and Civil Defence officials from the affected LGAs.
The targeted areas in the operation include Jibia, Batsari, Safana, Danmusa, Kankia, Faskari, Dandume, Sabuwa, Dutsin-Ma, Kurfi, Kankara, Musawa, Matazu, Malumfashi, Danja, Bakori, Funtua, Charanchi, and Batagarawa.
Muazu outlined the resolutions adopted during the meeting, emphasizing a community-based approach to security, which leverages local intelligence and active community participation:
- Launch of a 30-Day Operation: A sustained security operation will be carried out across all 19 LGAs, involving combined forces from various security agencies to protect lives and property.
- Activation of a Four-Tier Security Structure: The security framework, established under Katsina State law, will be activated to coordinate community-based security efforts more effectively.
- Empowerment of Local Councils: Affected local government councils will be equipped to support security operations, with a strong focus on enhancing community-based intelligence gathering.
- Role of Traditional Rulers: Traditional leaders are urged to use their influence to promote peace, unity, and prosperity across the state through their platforms.
The commissioner further highlighted the comprehensive and collaborative nature of these measures, aimed at addressing the security challenges facing Katsina’s communities.
“The Katsina State Government is fully committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents and will leave no stone unturned in implementing these resolutions,” Muazu stated. “We call on all citizens to cooperate with security agencies and report any suspicious activities in their areas. Together, we can build a safer and more secure Katsina State.”
