The Zamfara chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected allegations from the All Progressives Congress (APC) that Governor Dauda Lawal is undermining military efforts to combat banditry.
On Saturday, the APC called for a state of emergency in Zamfara, claiming that residents had lost faith in Lawal’s ability to ensure security.
In response, PDP publicity secretary Haliru Andi issued a statement on Sunday, characterizing the APC’s accusations as an attempt to destabilize the state government’s efforts against insecurity.
“Governor Lawal is the first in our state’s history to prioritize security with genuine commitment, in stark contrast to previous APC administrations,” Andi stated.
He accused the APC of politicizing the issue of insecurity, asserting that the PDP is dedicated to fostering peace and stability in Zamfara.
Andi described the call for a state of emergency as “deeply disrespectful to the people of Zamfara” and suggested it reflects the APC’s insecurity about Lawal’s leadership.
“The unfounded claims that Governor Dauda Lawal is sabotaging the fight against banditry are politically motivated attempts to undermine our ongoing efforts,” he said.
He highlighted Lawal’s achievements, including a refusal to engage with criminals, the establishment of Community Protection Guards (CPG), the creation of a Security Trust Fund to support conventional forces, and the distribution of vehicles to security agencies.
Andi labeled the APC’s allegations as desperate propaganda, urging the party to focus on real issues facing Zamfara rather than resorting to baseless accusations.
