A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama has issued a public summons for Yahaya Bello, the immediate past governor of Kogi State, to appear in court. Bello is to face a fresh 16-count charge filed against him.
According to the summons, Bello is expected to appear in court on October 24 for his arraignment, alongside two other defendants. Justice Maryanne Anenih issued the public summons on Thursday in response to an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Justice Anenih directed the EFCC to publish the summons in a widely circulated newspaper and ordered that copies be posted at Bello’s last known address, as well as in prominent locations within the court premises.
The EFCC stated that it has been unable to serve Bello with the charges, which were filed on September 24. The former governor, along with Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, is accused of criminal breach of trust involving ₦110.4 billion.
Bello’s absence in court on Thursday caused the scheduled arraignment to be postponed.
