Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has praised Rivers State Governor, Similaye Fubara, and the people of Rivers State for standing firm against what he termed political intimidation and judicial manipulation during the recently concluded local government elections.
Atiku’s commendation came in the wake of the Rivers State Local Government Council polls, which saw citizens casting their votes despite challenges.
In a post on his verified X account on Sunday, Atiku expressed his satisfaction with the election’s outcome, writing: “With the conclusion of the local government elections in Rivers State, the shadows of political intimidation and judicial chicanery have dissipated, paving the way for governance to take its rightful course in the state.”
He further highlighted the unity of the electorate, from Port Harcourt to Onne, in embracing democracy: “The people have spoken with one voice, affirming that democracy is indeed the best path forward.”
Atiku also emphasized the resilience of the Rivers people in rejecting political oppression and the influence of power-hungry godfathers. He urged the newly elected leaders to prioritize the welfare of the people, avoiding the pitfalls of tyranny and unchecked ambition in their political roles.
He lauded the peaceful conduct of the election, giving special recognition to Governor Fubara for his steadfast commitment to upholding the integrity of the democratic process despite provocations.
“In this election, the real winners are the people of Rivers State, who have exercised their right to choose their leaders, reinforcing the strength of our democracy,” Atiku concluded.
