The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that the 2024 Second Series of the Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates will commence on Friday, October 25, and run through Friday, December 20, 2024.
In a statement released on Tuesday, WAEC noted that the examination would adopt a hybrid mode. This means that while the objective or multiple-choice questions will be administered on-screen, candidates will be required to submit their responses electronically. For essay and practical questions, although the questions will also be displayed on-screen, candidates must respond using the traditional answer booklets provided by the Council.
Additionally, WAEC has introduced a paper-and-pen option for candidates who prefer to complete the entire examination in the traditional format.
“The Council wishes to inform all intending candidates that the registration period has been extended to Tuesday, October 29, 2024,” the statement read. It further explained that the “Walk-in-Candidate” option, which allows candidates to register 24 hours before the scheduled time of their chosen paper, will be available after the main registration period ends. The final timetable for the examination can be downloaded from WAEC’s official Nigerian website.
WAEC also encouraged all candidates to take advantage of the study tools provided. “We advise both intending and registered candidates to make use of the numerous learning resources available, including the WAEC e-Study platform, WAEC Past Questions and Answers books, and the WAECKonnect platform for peer interaction.”
The statement concluded with a message of goodwill: “WAEC wishes all candidates success in their examinations and reiterates its commitment to leveraging technological innovations to enhance service delivery for all stakeholders.”
