Three Kano-based “fraudsters” have been arrested for defrauding a Zamfara State resident to the tune of one million naira.
The suspects who hail from Kano, Kaduna and Zamfara States, were nabbed on Wednesday, according to Shehu Mohammed, spokesman for Zamfara Police Command.
The trio were identified as Mohammed Ibrahim, Ibrahim Salisu, and Abdulazeez Mohammed.
According to Shehu, the suspects had swindled one Abubakar Lawali at a Zenith Bank ATM Gallery through a POS operator near the ATM.
“On 24th January 2023, Police detectives acted based on complain by one Abubakar Lawali ‘M’ of Talata Mafara LGA. That, on the same date, while at the Zenith Bank ATM Gallery Talata branch, the above-mentioned suspects conspired and defrauded him of the sum of one million Naira (#1, 000,000) by withdrawing the same from his account through a POS operator via his ATM Card,” the statement read in part.
Shehu said the victim fell into their hands when he was having a network failure at the ATM stand.
He noted that the victim was lured and they collected his ATM card and deceitfully withdrew the money.
“In the course of interrogation, all the suspects confessed to the crime and further stated how they carried out similar fraud at different banks in Kano, Kaduna, Katsina and Zamfara States respectively,” Shehu stated.
He disclosed that the money and a Honda Accord Anaconda Vehicle was recovered from “fraudsters” as exhibits. The command, Shehu said, is investigating the matter to get hold of other people working with the suspects.
