SOHO Project Limited has collaborated with Aero Contractors, Avsatel Communications Limited, and Rafali Nigeria for the development of the Gusau Airport in Zamfara State, with an estimated cost of $80 million.
In a letter obtained by BusinessDay, SOHO stated ongoing discussions with the Zamfara State Government regarding the proposed Gusau Airport. The partnership involves Aero Contractor Airline overseeing airport management, Avsatel Communications Limited handling the aeronautical and meteorological aspects, and Rafali Nigeria Limited managing the civil works segment.
As part of the construction plan, SOHO intends to utilize the hangar to be built for Aero’s aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul operations in Northern Nigeria.
SOHO has expressed its intention to collaborate with Mainstreet Capital Limited as a financial advisor to raise bonds as needed for the project’s commencement or completion.
The Zamfara State government had previously announced plans to invest 15 percent of the total $80 million for the proposed Gusau cargo airport in April 2010. The remaining funds would be sourced from foreign and local firms, primarily led by Malaysia’s MPK Group.
In July 2010, a contract worth N10 billion ($67 million) for the construction of an international cargo airport in Gusau was re-awarded by the Zamfara Government. Former governor Bello Matawalle announced in August 2019 that construction would commence that month, emphasizing a $1 billion public-private partnership with Afreximbank for the airport project.
